i don't even know what to say.
i'm hurt. i know she's probably more hurt than i am, but it still hurts. i've been a fan for quite sometime now, i believe practically her whole career. she's one of the first skaters i remember watching. i remember many of her programs. Every nationals or worlds (or any other competition she was in) i'd sit in front of the tv watching other skaters falter and her, skating graceful and usually flawless programs. then it was time to watch her collect the 6.0's. both olympics i had so much hope. i never watched her in '98 cuz it was too late and in '02 i only saw the short program cuz i for some reason i missed the free skate. this year i was intending to see it all. see her pull through and prevail. giving each and everyone of us hope that determination, hard work, and a heart full of spirit can win in the end. i planned it all out too. week 7 not too much to do so on tuesday, during the meeting, i'll record it and watch the short program after. then on thursday i was gonna watch her win gold! sadly now i have absolutely no interest in watching women's figure skating. i mean, i hope one of the US skaters still wins, maybe messiner or hughes (not a big cohen fan, but she's good too), but it's just not the same without watching her finish her career with that gold medal.
i've been reading a lot of articles on it and i still think regardless of having the olympic gold, she is still one of the best. i respect her for knowing that the olympics isn't about her winning gold, her long time dream, it's about being part of the American team and helping them win gold. she put her pride aside and gracefully bowed out. she showed so much courage and strength. that's something i'm trying to learn. she's so awesome and i'm sad that this is how it ends and i'm sure she is too.
but it's ok. i don't care what any of those critics say about her not being great just because she doesn't have the gold. she's still one of the best and my figure skating hero!
(yes, i'm a very big michelle kwan fan and i'm sad that she withdrew from the olympics today.)
